Pleurothallis phyllocardiodes

Pleurothallis phllocardiodes has a wide native range through Central America and South America as far down as Bolivia. It lives in wet forests and is reported from lowland forests right up to 1800m which explains the forgiving nature of the species in cultivation.  the long lived, tough heart shaped leaves are held on wirey stems and do not seem to suffer from heat stress.

Although the yellow flowers are small they are produced in profusion from the base of all the leaves, old and new. The species also flowers several times each year, so a very rewarding plant to grow.

We grow plants in pots and mounted on bark in our cloud forest greenhouse (min 12C) although its native range suggests it would happily grow warmer.
