Coelogyne wenzelii (Dendrochilum wenzelii)

Dendrochillum wenzelii is native to the Philippines where it grows as an epiphyte in evergreen forests from 300 to 1000m altitude and produces flower spikes of many small brick red flowers. The habitat range explains the plants tolerance of a wide range of temperatures and we grow plants both cool (min 12C) and warm (min 17C) with equal success.

Plants also don't seem fussy about light levels making this an easy orchid to grow well.

We keep plants well watered when in growth (in the summer) and a little dryer in the winter but always a little damp.

Plants are about 20cm tall with the flowers held clear of the leaves.

Dendrochilums have recently been included in the genus Coelogyne and so the accepted name for this species is now Coelogyne wenzelii
