Masdevallia coriacea
This luscious flower belongs to Masdevallia coriacea. The species is a medium sized Masdevallia with leaves 10-12cm long and flowers held clear of the leaves. It is a robust grower that produces long lasting flowers over a long period.
The species is found in cool forests from 2200 to 3700m altitude in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. There is considerable variation in flower markings with flowers from white to dark cream and few dotted red stripes to bold thick stripes – all are lovely. The flowers have a thick texture and are long lasting.
We grow plants with our other Masdevallias with a winter minimum of 12C, shade in the summer lots of ventilation and plenty of water throughout the year.
