Trisitella cordeliae
Trisetella cordeliae which is really small both in terms of its leaves – just 10mm long and short spikes with small (but relatively large) attractive hairy pink flowers. The flower spikes produce a succession of flowers over a long period.
The species is endemic to Peruvian cloud forests and so is at home in our cloudforest greenhouse (min 12C) as long as we grow it low down in the greenhouse so that it is a little more shaded, damper and cooler than some of our plants.
Trisitella cordeliae is relatively slow growing and takes about ten years from division to make a real specimen but flowers more than once on its thin little flower spikes. the plant in flower today will be flowering until about December.
We only grow Trisitellas mounted as the tiny plants quickly become our competed by moss in a small pot. The mount also allows the full beauty of the plant to be enjoyed.
