Coelogyne ovalis is a straight forward species to grow that flowers as a small plant and over time can spread to become a specimen (see photos 2 and 3) We have seen the species growing in seasonally wet forests from Sikkim across to Laos. We have found it at altitudes between 1200m and 2600m which is reflewcted in the wide temperature tolerance of the species in cultivation. We grow the species cool (in our himalayas greenhouse minimum 7C) and warm indoors and it succeeds in both environments providing it is kept well watered in the summer when in growth and then kept just damp in the winter (dry season)
The species is autumn flowering and although the flowers are not large they can be produced in profusion.
We have a few clones of the species and this is the compact form with yellow/brown flowers.
