Masdevallia coccinea

Masdevallia coccinea is a very rewarding species and produces masses of large brightly coloured flowers in a range of colours including white, yellow, red and pink. It comes from Colombia and Peru where it grows in cool wet forest up to 3000m altitude. The long flower spikes hold the flowers well clear of the leaves for its hummingbird pollinator.

The three photgraphs show three of our favourite clones that have been in our collection for over 20 years. The alba form is very floriferous and the purest while, the light pink form is more compact than most and our largest growing clone in the stunning deep pink form.

We grow this species in baskets and pots in our 'Cloud Forest Glasshouse' minimum 12C and water well all year (every two days)
