Maxillaria acuminata
This small growing Maxillaria is native to South America from Venezuela to Peru and grows in wet forest from 450-2400m. We find it plants do well mounted or in pots as long as they can be kept cool and well watered all year.
The flowers are about 3cm across and a well grown plant produces them in profusion.
The habitat data suggests that the species is tolerant of a range of temperatures. We grow the species in our cloud forest greenhouse (min 12C) although it would be happy warmer. We have grown plants in good light and in deep shade and again the species doesn't seem to mind. All in all this is a very rewarding and trouble free orchid.
