Coelogyne fluctuata has unusal creamy brown flowers with a very distinctive large lip. Until recently this species was knows as Dendrochilum undulatum and its very 'coelogyne' like flowers support the DNA evidence that has been used to include all dendrochilums in coelogyne.
Coelogyne fluctuata is endemic to the Philippines where it grows on the island of Luzon and is reported in wet Montain forest. We find that the species lobves life in our Cloud Forest greenhouse with a winter minimum of 12C and lots of water especially in the summer when plants grow rapidly with flowers appearing from the centre of the new growths before then go on to make rather attractive small bulbs with a redish tinge.Â
The plant is small growing for a Coelogyne and very floriferous so we are looking forward to growing one of our plants into a real specimen.
