We have previously known Pleurothallis microcardia as Pleurothallis stenosepala and it is a really easy little orchid to grow that produces cute little flowers intermittently at the base of its heart shaped leaves.
Pleurothallis stenosepala is native to mountain forests in South America from 1600 to 2800m. We have seen closely related species growing in wet evergreen forest at 1400m on the Poas volcano in deep shade. We grow the species successfully both mounted and in pots and it has proved robust and straight forward to grow, so a great choice to try if you are new to Pleurothallis.
We grow plants in our cloud forests greenhouse (min 12C) or indoors in a with shade and well watered throughout the year. Indoors this could be on a noth facing windowsill or away from a brighter window where it can see the window but not be in full sun. The species is ideal for a terrarium.
The name of Pleurothallis stenosepala has recently beed changed to Pleurothallis microcardia.
