Specklinia picta

Specklinia picta is closely related to Specklinia grobyi, distinguished by its leaf shape and flower details, and shares similar habitats across Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

We have seen Specklinia picta growing in South Easters Brazil in wet but open forests on ridges around 1200m altitude although the species is recorded across its wide range from 70m right up to 2100m.

This wide range is reflected in the variability of the species and our clone has gorgeous little striped flowers reminiscent of tiny circus tents.

As you can see we grow the species (like all our mini-miniatures) mounted on cork. You can see in the first photo how the littel roots grip tight to the bark and give this tiny p[lant the resiliance it needs to live as an epiphyte. The moss around the roots has grown since we mounted the plant that we water once a day thoughout the year and twice a day in hot weather such as we have at present.
