This lovely masdevallia is endemic to Peru where it is reported from 2000 to 2700m in cool cloud forests and so plants are very at home in our cloud forest greenhouse (min 12C) where we grow plants low down in cooler shady conditions. As 2026 has been a hot summer we have a couple of species that show signs of heat stress but Masdevallia echo seems to be enjoying the summer and we have been keeping plants really well watered in baskets - watering twice a day during the hottest days.
The flowers of Masdevallia echo are very striking with the sepaline tube forming a bowl shape which makes the species very easily distinguished from other red and yellow masdevallias in our collection.
Masdevallia echo is a repeat flower on its flower spikes so don't cut them off until they turm brown and shrivelled.
