Today we have the stunning species Oncidium preastanoides previously known as Odontoglossum preastans.
This species is native to cool wet Andean forests from Colombia to Peru and found from 1600m to 2100m and so enjoys cool temperatures in cultivation. We grow the species in our Himalayan greenhouse where we find that the Oncidium species once included in Odontoglossum enjoy growing cool and wet but with good light.
This small plant has four large, beautiful and fragrant flowers on its spike and as it matures we hope to see it produce 10 or more. We will pollinate these flowers and hope to raise seedlings in our lab over the next couple of years.
