Masdevallia guayanensis is not only found in Guyana but across the North Easst of South America from Venezuela to Northern Brazil. It is recorded from cool mountain forests at around 1800-1900m where it experiences rainfall throughout the year.
In cultivation we find that it enjoys growing mounted in fairly bright light providing it is well watered.
The flowers of Masdevallia guyanensis are long lasting and elegant on their long stems which are generally a little pendulous. Plants are compact with leaves around 6cm long making this a really attractive species.
We have been growing the species for more than 20 years and plants are quite slow to bulk up but it is well worth the wait. Flowering is very strongly seasonal and all our plants flower together every October.
